STORM WARNING an Entertaining New Wyoming Crime Thriller

As usual, Joe won't back off, but he soon finds himself up against some fake federal agents and a dangerous armed ring of sovereign separatists planning a major coup event. At the same time, a massive snowstorm is descending on the local region.

Storm Warning is a fast-reading crime thriller that longtime fans of the Joe Pickett series will devour eagerly. Highly recommended.

An unknown sniper tries to shoot a local judge through the window of his dining room. The rifle shot comes from what seems like an impossible distance, a wooded hillside over a mile away. The shooter uses a high-tech weapon with a computerized sighting system. The trajectory is perfect, finding the window target exactly, but when the judge bends just before the bullet arrives, it strikes his wife instead, grievously wounding her.

Joe Pickett joins the local authorities in the search for the unknown marksman. The arrogant new sheriff doesn't want Joe's help, so Joe follows his own leads. But the trail twists toward hidden motives and surprising suspects in the small town that Pickett would never have believed could be involved in trying to kill a judge. As Joe and a posse close in on the killer in a dangerous mountain hunt, the shooter is already sighting in on Joe himself.

Long Range  is another entertaining offering from author C.J. Box. The this one makes a perfect beach book that readers will gulp down with their iced teas.

WOLFPACK a New Wyoming Crime Thriller

New trouble for Joe starts when he investigates the illegal use of a drone to chase elk and antelope herds, leading to panic and deaths among the animals. But when Joe tries to track down the drone owner, he runs up against a stone wall. The drone user is a mystery man protected by Federal authorities for classified reasons.

But Joe Pickett isn't the only one after this mystery man. A vicious gang of drug cartel killers, called the Wolfpack, is also looking for the same man. When this pack arrives in the small town of Saddle String, they move to ruthlessly take out anyone in their way, including Joe Pickett and anyone he is working with.

Wolfpack is a taut thriller that builds at high speed toward a violent showdown in the Wyoming mountain country. C.J. Box has created a riveting series with the Joe Pickett novels and this latest entry is one of his best. An absolutely great read.  

THE DISAPPEARED by C.J. Box a new Wyoming Mystery

Wyoming state game warden Joe Pickett returns in The Disappeared, a new mystery novel from C.J. Box. The popular series is set against a rugged Western backdrop as Joe Pickett finds himself involved in often dangerous criminal situations.

A new problem arises for Joe when a British tourist vanishes after her stay at the upscale Silver Creek dude ranch. The local game warden from the same district is also suddenly missing. Joe Pickett is sent by the new state Governor to replace the missing game warden and at the same time, look into the disappearance of the British woman.

As Joe digs into the mystery, he begins to have questions about a big company, Buckbrush Power, which owns a massive wind power farm in the nearby mountains. Could the company be behind the recent losses of the tourist and the game warden?

Joe's investigation leads him in unexpected directions toward the surprising answers to two different mysteries. The Disappeared offers only a passable mystery plot, but new material involving familiar characters like Joe's daughter, Sheridan, should satisfy fans of the continuing series.

VICIOUS CIRCLE a New C.J. Box Western Crime Thriller

Vicious Circle by C.J. Box is the latest crime thriller in the series that features Wyoming Game Warden Joe Pickett. The Pickett novels are noted for fast moving plots, with raw boned action, set against a rugged, beautifully evoked western landscape.

This new entry continues Joe Pickett's violent feud with the Cates family, a roughneck clan that terrorized Joe's family in the earlier novel, Endangered. That conflict left members of the Cates family dead and the younger son, Dallas, in prison. But Dallas is now out of custody, and along with his malevolent, wheelchair-bound mother, is looking for revenge against Joe.

Facing this threat, Joe has the help of his hard edged friend, Nate Romanowski, an Army special forces veteran. But the Cates gang wants to avenge their family losses by going after Joe's own family, leaving his wife, Marybeth, and three daughters in imminent danger.

Vicious Circle is another outstanding  read from C.J. Box in a regional flavored series that is one of the best in the crime novel genre.

OFF THE GRID a Western Crime Thriller

Off the Grid by C.J. Box is the latest novel in the series that features Wyoming Game Warden Joe Pickett. The Pickett novels are noted for fast moving plots, with raw boned action, set against a rugged western landscape. This newest entry doesn't disappoint.

The storyline shifts between Joe Pickett and his friend Nate Romanowski, a former special forces soldier and now a renegade outlaw wanted by the Feds. Nate has been hiding out in the wilderness off the grid. But the Feds finally locate him and recruit him for a job. In return, Nate's record will be fully cleared.

The Feds want Nate to infiltrate a suspected terrorist cell training in the remote, desolate Red desert region of Wyoming. Meanwhile, the state governor sends Joe Pickett into the same area to find out what the Feds are up to on state lands.

Joe and Nate are working separate missions, but they both run up against the same ruthless enemies in the middle of a barren nowhere. When it becomes clear what kind of disaster the terrorists plan to cause, the book's title takes on a whole new meaning. 

Off the Grid is a riveting read that again shows why C.J. Box is one of the most popular authors in the crime thriller genre.
